What Vrbo's help page says
- A 12% commission fee plus Goods and Services Tax (GST).[1]
- Australia: GST "is calculated at 10% on the commission rate and is always 0.5%."[1]
- Japan: no GST is applied.[1]
- New Zealand: GST "is calculated at 15% on the commission rate and is always 0.75%."[1]
- If your business is GST-registered and you entered a valid GST ID in the Owner Dashboard, GST isn't charged on Vrbo's commission.[1]
A figure that doesn't add up
10% of a 12% commission is 1.2% of the booking, and 15% of 12% is 1.8%. The 0.5% and 0.75% on Vrbo's page match the old 5% commission (10% and 15% of 5%), which the archived page described for these countries along with no processing fee.[2] We report both; check your payout statement for the GST actually charged.
| On a $1,000 booking | Commission | GST at 10% / 15% of commission | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Australia | $120 | $12.00 | $132.00 |
| New Zealand | $120 | $18.00 | $138.00 |
| Japan | $120 | None | $120.00 |
Our arithmetic from the rates on Vrbo's page.[1] Skift reports the 12% starts on October 29, 2026.[3] Software-connected hosts in Australia or New Zealand may pay 12%โ15%.[1]
